Imagine you have the chance to take a free vacation anywhere in the world! The only catch is that you have to make the travel plans by yourself. This is your first trip! You excitedly book coach seats on the airplane, reserve a room at a beautiful hotel, and make a list of everything you want to do there. The day finally comes to begin your journey.
Unfortunately, things don’t go exactly as expected.
Not only are the airplane seats knees-to-the-chin-cramped. The person sitting next to you won’t stop talking, and someone stinks like they fell into a bathtub of bad perfume. It’s all making the 6-hour flight very uncomfortable.
After landing, you learn your connecting flight is on a layover. Hungry, exhausted, and frustrated, you wait in the tight seats in the crowded airport terminal… asking yourself, “Is this vacation really worth all of this trouble? Maybe I should have just stayed home where I’m comfortable?”
Hours later, you finally arrive at the hotel that looks nothing like the pictures online. At this point, you’re too tired to care. You climb into an uncomfortable bed, almost dreading the next day.
Happily, you wake up to a beautiful morning and begin a week full of the exciting new experiences you could only get on that special vacation. It was worth every uncomfortable problem you went through to get there!
You quickly begin planning your next vacation—a little wiser, understanding that things may not go exactly as expected, but it will be worth the trip!
Uncomfortable Decisions Leads To New Opportunities
I’m a firm believer that being uncomfortable leads to new opportunities and greater ideas. Being uncomfortable gives you a reason to move forward and change direction.
Staying in a comfortable place because it’s familiar doesn’t give you the chance to move forward. Life becomes a habit. Maybe that idea appeals to you? Maybe the thought of dealing with the unknown is overwhelming, even scary?
- You are worth more than a life of simple habit!
- You were born with gifts that are uniquely yours!
- You have talent!
Use them to lead you on a journey through an exceptional life! Your talent brings passion to your life and offers something to the world that only you can provide. It takes the willingness to be uncomfortable to begin your journey. You must learn how to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. I know, because every day I am experiencing that same thing in my own life.
After spending 40 years as a successful educator, I decided it was time to begin fulfilling my own dreams. I needed freedom. I wanted to share my unique thumbprint of love, excellence, and encouragement with the world.
The idea of change was scary, because both my family and I would have to make sacrifices. I am blessed that my wife and family support my uncomfortable decision. So, I traded in a comfortable career and its financial security for an uncertain future.
I am looking for a way to continue empowering others, by using my gifts and beliefs that I am passionate about. I am still in the process of working to improve myself and those around me.
AS AN EDUCATOR, I learned how too many young males approaching manhood have a gap in their understanding of what it takes to be gentleman. Those men who define what it means to be full of self-respect, have strong characters, show courtesy, and are social awareness are the example of being a Gentleman.
I wanted to fill in that gap for them. So, I created “Gentlemen for Life.”
I began building a program to show young men how they each have something positive to bring to the table, and to know that they matter. It became one of the passions that I have been searching for. It is a wonderful decision that has enhanced my life.
“Gentlemen for Life,” lets exceptional young men pass on their understanding of what it takes to be a gentleman to those in need. They help create a new generation of outstanding male leaders possessing the values of gentlemen. My vision continues to grow as each new generation is investing in those who will follow them.
My dream of filling that crucial gap of understanding for young men is really happening. That uncomfortable decision I made to change my life’s direction set me out on a journey to where I was meant to go. What was once “uncomfortable” is now enjoyable.
An uncomfortable journey is hard, but you’ll get where you need to be. It may not always be the place you set out to go, but it’s where you should be. It helps you reconnect to yourself and become stronger.
The process of true growth means that the place you reach is not your destination. Once you arrive, you’ll discover more wonderful opportunities to continue moving forward.
You discover the journey itself is the reward.
